Yavapai County Seeking College Governing Board Member

Yavapai County Schools Superintendent Tim Carter announced a vacancy on the Yavapai College District Governing Board for District 4 (North Prescott, Chino Valley, Paulden, Ashfork, Seligman, and surrounding areas). Attached is a map and the general geographical area within the district. The opening was prompted by the resignation of Yavapai University Trustee Chris Cucunyo.

Chris Cucunyo’s resignation memo read:

“I am writing to inform you that I will be resigning from my position as a member of the Yavapai College District Board of Directors, effective December 31, 2024. I will be assuming a new position as County Supervisor. I feel that this new position requires my utmost attention. I have enjoyed my time on the University Board, and while being fiscally responsible to the taxpayers, I feel that my perspective is that of the students. We hope that you will bring us unique ideas to promote education and life.

“I am proud to have witnessed Dr. Rein’s ‘turning the ship’ and look forward to seeing the future she and her staff create for the benefit of our community. In my new capacity, I hope to continue to be involved in the university’s mission through collaboration.Many of the county’s needs are currently being addressed at YC, including economic development, housing, and workforce development. and can enhance impacts and opportunities that benefit residents.”

Please include information about yourself, including your family, education, work history, why you want to serve on the board, address and mailing address, email address, and home/work phone number. Candidates may include up to three letters of recommendation if they wish.

To be eligible for this seat, you must be a registered voter, reside in District 4, be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age, have civil rights, and not be employed by a college or school district. their spouse. this is bipartisan seatthe appointment will reflect its legal requirements.

The deadline to receive letters of interest, resumes, and letters of recommendation is Monday, December 2, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.

Similar to historical precedent for community college appointments, Superintendent Carter will establish a five-member Candidate Review Committee. Committee members reside in District 4 and will review letters of interest, resumes, and letters of recommendation. The committee is made up of taxpayers, faculty, staff, students, elected officials, and people who work in the workforce development field. The committee will determine who will be interviewed, set interview questions, interview the selected candidates on Dec. 13, and select a candidate for Carter to consider. Prior to making the final selection, the Superintendent will meet individually with each currently seated member of the Yavapai College Board of Trustees to obtain their input on the final candidates.

The public in District 4 is also invited to email Mr. Carter their thoughts on the candidates or to meet with Mr. Carter in person in Yavapai on Monday, December 16th for 10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You will have the opportunity to County Office of Education Services in Prescott after the finalists were announced. Meetings will be held on a first-come, first-served basis.

Appointments are expected to be announced by Wednesday, December 18th. This period will take effect on January 1, 2025 and remain in effect until December 31, 2026.
