Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Community Notification
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is required to share specific information in line with ARS 13-3825, which pertains to the Sex Offenders Act. This is meant to notify the community about offenders residing in unconsolidated areas of the county. It’s the duty of the Chief Law Enforcement Agency in each jurisdiction to inform the public when a sex offender is released from Arizona State Prison, or from a county jail back into the community. Offenders are categorized into three risk levels: Level 1 (low risk), Level 2 (medium risk), and Level 3 (high risk).
One individual highlighted in this notification is 51-year-old Gary Michael Vasco, who has a recorded history of a sex crime that necessitates community notification. He has informed the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office of his residence on Golden Lane, in Black Canyon, Arizona.
Vasco’s criminal history includes a conviction on August 28, 1992, for attempted child abuse in Maricopa County when he was just 19 years old. He received a sentence of six months in prison followed by lifetime probation. The victim was a 5-year-old girl known to him.
His record also includes various failures to register as a sex offender. In Indiana, on February 23, 2006, he was found guilty and sentenced to 1.5 years in state prison for this violation. Similarly, he faced two more convictions for failing to register in Maricopa County, receiving sentences of 2.5 years on July 22, 2010, and 5.75 years on August 24, 2015.
This notification aims to increase community awareness, not fear. The sheriff’s office believes that informed communities are safer. However, it’s essential to understand that using this information to intimidate or harass any sex offender is unacceptable.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office invites the public to utilize its sex offender registration and notification services available at www.ycsoaz.gov. The registry allows individuals to enter a local address and see a list of registered sex offenders living within a mile radius. It also provides details on specific offenders and offers a free email notification program for updates on registered sex offenders near the entered address.
