Community Notice on Sex Offender
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, in accordance with ARS 13-3825, is releasing a community notice regarding the Sex Offenders Act. This announcement is focused on offenders residing in an unincorporated area of Yavapai County. It’s the responsibility of local law enforcement to inform the community about any specific sex offenders who are released from Arizona State Jail or county jail under certain circumstances.
Offenders are classified into three levels based on their risk to the community: Level 1 indicates low risk, Level 2 denotes an intermediate risk, and Level 3 indicates a high risk.
In this notice, 57-year-old David Steltempol is mentioned. He has been convicted of a sex crime that requires community notification and has reported his address as 2440 W Rainmaker in Prescott, Arizona.
Steltempol’s criminal history includes a conviction on December 18, 1986, for attempted sexual assault in Maricopa County when he was 19, which led to a five-year probation sentence. The victim was an adult woman he did not know.
Additionally, on September 11, 2000, while in California, he was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender, resulting in a 24-month sentence. Later, on December 18, 2012, in Yavapai County, he faced another conviction for failure to register, which earned him a three-year sentence.
This notification aims to inform the public rather than incite fear. The sheriff’s office believes that a well-informed community can contribute to safety. It is important to note that using this information to harass or intimidate offenders will not be tolerated.
Furthermore, the sheriff’s office would like the public to be aware of the available sex offender registration and notification programs. By visiting www.ycsoaz.gov, residents can enter a local address to see all registered sex offenders living within a mile radius. The site also offers information on specific offenders and has a free email notification service for alerts concerning registered offenders near designated addresses.
For more details about this community resource, individuals can access the Sex Offender Registry link on the YCSO homepage, which leads to online presentations available for public viewing.
