‘You Doubled Down’: Bret Baier Asks Ron DeSantis If Black History Curriculum Is A ‘Fight Worth Having’

In an interview Monday night, Fox News’ Brett Byer put pressure on Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over a black history curriculum.

Byer said DeSantis “doubled down”, saying that critics of the new curriculum, including Republican Florida Rep. Byron Donald, “are essentially on the side of Vice President Kamala Harris or the Democrats.” I did,” he said. Byer asked if it was “a fight worth fighting”.

“We didn’t choose the fight, Brett,” DeSantis replied. “Kamala Harris got on a jet at the taxpayer’s expense and she flew to Florida to lie about the African-American historical standards that were created.

“Okay,” Bayer replied.

“Why is this important, anyway?” DeSantis said. “You can’t bend your knee to the left lie. When the left lies and creates these false narratives. You have to push back.”

DeSantis went on to provoke one thing after another, saying, “Republicans bend their knees.” He said the issue was related to a fight over “indoctrination in schools.” (Related: Florida advances African-American history standards despite backlash)

“We eliminated important race theories a few years ago. When we did, the media lied, and the Left also lied that they didn’t want to teach about African-American history, and so on.” said DeSantis. “These standards came out of fighting the CRT, because this is real history. So it’s disingenuous to take anything demagogue.”

He argued that “this was a public process” and that people could “dissent”.

“Nobody said anything about it,” he said. “They were being admired for their work by people beyond their political stance. Now Harris is coming and parachuting?”

Mr. DeSantis suggested that Republicans should have pushed back against Mr. Harris.

The Florida Department of Education (DOE) released a July 19 African-American history book containing lessons about what skills slaves developed for personal gain, such as carpentry, tailoring, and blacksmithing. adopted the standards. The curriculum was criticized by Republican and Democratic lawmakers, including Kamala Harris, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, and Donald Trump.
