‘You Haven’t Seen The Bill’: GOP Rep. Mike Lawler Calls Out Tapper For Trying To Push Border Deal

Republican Congressman Mike Lawler of New York got into a heated debate on CNN Wednesday over the current negotiations for a border security agreement.

The Senate is currently negotiating a bill that would trigger a “forced closure” if more than 5,000 immigrants are apprehended at the border. Migrants who arrive after the 5,000 limit is reached will not have their asylum claims processed and will be immediately expelled. This policy will continue for two weeks until the average number of encounters per day falls below 3,750 people.

President Joe Biden said the bill would give him “emergency powers to close the border until we get it back under control.”

“If that bill were the law today, I would close the borders right now and fix it right away.”

Lawlor first said that while no one had seen the details of the agreement yet, his goal was to “secure our borders” and “stop the mass influx of not only migrants but also human trafficking and drug trafficking.” Admitted.

Lawler said negotiations between the House and Senate are needed to pass immigration legislation, and accused Biden of overseeing record levels of illegal immigration and capture-and-release policies. “Oh, but the Speaker said 'no' earlier. You just said you haven't seen the bill, but the Speaker explained it to you and said it was dead on arrival.” I see, do you understand?”

“With all due respect, you haven't seen this bill, but it's interesting that in recent weeks the media has been trying to put pressure on everyone to agree to a deal that hasn't actually been agreed. Why not see what the final bill is and see if it passes and then negotiate?”

“Yes, by the way, Jake, Donald Trump said no, so the chairman said no. The speaker is Donald Trump's 'no' boy, okay, on this one,” Moskowitz said. interjected.

“Look, I'll give Republicans credit for a second. They've been emphasizing the border for a long time. And we were late, I mean, late in starting to address it. But now we're on it. We want to tackle, now we want to reduce the amount of fentanyl coming in, now we want to deal with illegal immigration, now we want to deal with potential terrorists coming into the country, now the Republicans are in control. The man says, “No, no, we need this for the next 10 months. We actually need more for the next 10 months to use it in the election.” Both things are true here. This is why people hate Washington. ”

“Well,” Lawler chimed in before talking about Moskowitz.

“The question is what's on the actual bill. No one has actually seen the bill.”

“The bill is invalid! The bill is invalid!” Moskowitz said as the trio began talking to each other.

Mr. Tapper had to end the segment, but not before Mr. Lawler reiterated his position on tough border measures and the need to stem the flow of migrants.
