Republican strategist Scott Jennings claimed on a CNN panel Thursday night that former Republican Georgia lieutenant governor Jeff Duncan wants President-elect Donald Trump to “fail.”
Duncan, who supported Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, is one of several candidates for cabinet positions, including former Hawaii Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who was elected director of national intelligence, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized Trump about the department. , was elected Secretary of Health and Human Services. “My thinking is that people actually expected them to be involved, and the reason they were okay with it is because they’re tired of institutional Washington,” Jennings said. Ta. “It’s different than actually running the gauntlet through confirmation and getting confirmation. But I don’t think there should be any political mistakes here. Trump ran with these people and these He ran on the idea of being above the people and blowing up Washington, and he’s doing that.”
clock:
John Abron, a former CNN analyst who ran for Congress as a Democrat, brought up Republican Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah)’s criticism of Gabbard and said Jennings is “waiting for her confirmation hearing.” The exchange continued.
“He won the election. He did a great job of being a voice for everything that’s bothering people without offering solutions,” Duncan argued. “But the problem now is, he’s got a job, he’s going to be president, and he doesn’t have a solution. None.”
After another panelist pointed out that Duncan didn’t like Trump’s solution, Jennings outlined Trump’s proposal.
“We will extend tax cuts, fight for American workers, bring our immigration system under control, end uncontrolled spending from the federal budget, lower inflation, and free up American energy,” Jennings said. Mr. Duncan interjected. I asked him what he was going to do to reduce inflation. ”
Mr. Duncan again pressed Mr. Jennings, insisting that he wanted details about curbing inflation, not boosting the economy.
“I know you’ve got some stumps you want to polish. It’s over. Campaigning was a few weeks ago,” Jennings said, and Duncan said, “Being an American isn’t over. The destruction of the country is not over. Our future is not over.”
“He won the election. He’s not done being an American,” Jennings responded.
Mr. Duncan countered that he wanted Mr. Trump to fulfill his “responsibility.” (Related article: ‘This can’t happen’: MSNBC guest Nicole Wallace goes off the rails after President Trump nominates RFK Jr. to HHS)
