Yuma County 4-H members preparing animals for the fair

YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – In today’s Home Grown report, it’s time for kids and teens across Yuma County to get ready to showcase their 4-H animals at the Yuma County Fair starting next week.

4-H is a youth development education program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the University of Arizona.

Yuma County Kids are welcome to participate in the 4-H program from age 8.

A local 4-H youth development agent said Yuma County is an AG community, so there are many agriculture-related projects.
“We were lucky enough to have a wonderful county fair where all the Yuma County 4-H attendees were able to showcase their achievements for the year. We have a lot of different big animals like goats, market sheep, pigs, and this year we have our newest and most popular project production feeder calves,” says Amy Parrott. , Yuma County 4-H Youth Development Agent.

The program introduces a variety of small animals, as well as home ec and general projects.

You can see these animals and projects at the weeklong Yuma County Fair starting next Tuesday.

There will be an auction on Saturday, April 8th, so if you are interested in purchasing a home-grown animal from a home-grown child, please come to the Junior Livestock Committee Secretariat.
