Yuma County Ag Appreciation Week coming up – Yuma Pioneer

Yuma County is a major player in the agricultural industry, one of Colorado’s largest industries.
In recognition of that fact, Yuma County Ag Week is March 20-24. Yuma County and several businesses and organizations work together to host a variety of events in recognition of the country’s contribution to agriculture.

However, it’s not all sunshine and unicorns, as mental and emotional health can be a constant challenge.
To that end, the High Plains Research Network has created the Changing Our Mental & Emotional Trajector (COMET) program. (For more information about COMET, see elsewhere in this edition.) HPRN, Centennial Mental Health, CSU Extension, Yuma County Commissioner, and WRAC on Monday, March 20 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. , COMET Community Training at WRAC at 700 Main Street. In Ray.
Training included learning natural ways to talk to friends, neighbors, or acquaintances about difficult topics, learning conversation guides and the importance of being the “other”, and learning how to use COMET intervening questions and how to use COMET. It involves practicing how to use it. Have conversations about the well-being of others.
Light refreshments will be provided during the event.
Water is clearly a critical factor in Yuma County agriculture.
The Republican River Water Conservation District will host three presentations next week, providing information updates and interactive conversations. Hear about current efforts, future plans, and the status of work towards the first of two goals for managing river flow and conservation efforts in the Republican Basin.
Presentations will be held on Tuesday, March 21 from 9-11 am at the City of Leigh Roundhouse and from 1-3 pm at the Yuma County Fairgrounds in Yuma. The third presentation will be on Wednesday, March 22nd from 1-3pm at the Grassroots Community Center in Joes.
Agriculture and related businesses are a major employer in Yuma County. A “Discover Your Future” event will be held at Ray School on Wednesday, March 22nd from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Together, agriculture employers and Yuma County youth will be able to discover career opportunities.

Finally, on Friday, March 24th from 11:30am to 1:00pm, the Yuma County Fairgrounds in Yuma will host a fun Ag Supporters BBQ. For anyone involved in or supporting the Yuma County agricultural industry. For barbecue enquiries, please contact Shelby Clark at (970) 630-4531.
