YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Anti-Drug Coalition provided an update to the Yuma City Council during Tuesday night’s work session.

The coalition has grown to over 150 members and has worked over the past 20 years to combat substance abuse issues throughout the Yuma community.

They also talked about the community partnerships they have built.

“When we get together, we network and we try to work on different projects together. We find ways to support each other at other events, so it’s important to have that support,” said Sherry of the Yuma County Anti Association. Chairman Mellon said. -Drug Coalition.

Yuma Mayor Doug Nichols shares why the organization is a great benefit to the city.

Mayor Doug Nichols said, “It crosses boundaries, it crosses businesses and social groups, it crosses all kinds of elements that truly sum up our greater community, and the City of Yuma is committed to such efforts. There is a need,” he said.

The coalition says it is actively engaged within the community.

“Last year, we distributed over 100,000 pieces of information and resources. 20,000 Sync Bags will be distributed to each household. Each Frisbee will have a QR code that will take you to our website.” said Mellon.

The coalition hopes to receive another Drug Free Communities grant in January to continue its efforts.
