YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Yuma County Oversight Board Chairman Martin Polchas sent a letter to President Biden requesting a state of emergency declaration due to the ongoing border crisis.
In the letter, Martin Porchas said:
“As Title 42 ends, Yuma County, its municipalities, and non-profit organizations will seek federal funding to help provide transportation, care, food, and shelter for the dramatically increased number of illegal immigrants. I realized that I was in urgent need of help from Cross the border into Yuma County.
“I respectfully ask you to declare a federal emergency to give the federal government the ability to send urgently needed resources, personnel and infrastructure to protect residents and migrants crossing our borders.“
Yuma County is subject to a state of emergency declared by then-Chairman Tony Reyes in December 2022.
This is due to the health and humanitarian crisis and the expected end of Title 42.
