Yuma County Board Chairman requests help from the President | Yuma

Yuma — Yuma County Oversight Board Chairman Martin Porchus sent a letter to President Joe Biden requesting a state of emergency over the escalating crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“As Title 42 nears its end, Yuma County and its local governments and nonprofits are seeking immediate federal assistance to provide transportation, care, food and housing for the dramatically increased number of non-regular workers. We realized what we needed: immigrants crossing the border into Yuma County,” said Polchas.

Yuma County is under a state of emergency declared by then-Chairman Tony Reyes in December 2022 due to the expected end of the health and humanitarian crisis and Title 42.

“I humbly ask you to declare a federal state of emergency so that the federal government can deploy the resources, personnel and infrastructure urgently needed to protect our residents and cross-border migrants,” said Polchas. .
