Yuma County Board of Supervisors address border issues

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – At the Yuma County Supervisory Board meeting on Monday, supervisors discussed several ongoing issues along the southern border.

Supervisor Jonathan Lines said there were fewer borders in January than in December, bringing in an average of 400 migrants per day.

They also touched on communicable disease issues and activities occurring at the U.S.-Mexico border that involve or affect county health and emergency management.

On December 14, 2022, Tony Reyes, chairman of the Yuma County Board of Supervisors, declared a countywide state of emergency to bring attention to and prepare for the escalating immigration situation due to the end of Title 42. bottom.

The board said Yuma County, the city of Yuma and the city of San Luis all still maintain their state of emergency declarations.

The Biden administration has previously attempted to lift Title 42 via CDC orders like this one, which led to lawsuits from Republican states, but will expire the public health emergency declaration on May 11. This will end the policy.
