Yuma County Board of Supervisors share their thoughts on HCR 2060

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Board of Supervisors shared Monday how immigration bill HCR 2060, also known as the “Border Security Act,” could impact our community.

“The public is tired of government not doing its job and is looking for any way to fill the gap,” Yuma County District 3 Board of Supervisors Darren Simmons said.

The resolution could allow voters to decide this November whether local law enforcement officers can arrest migrants who cross the border illegally.

One supervisor who supported the resolution said he would like to see the language changed.

“What they're hoping is that the definition of 'Operation Stonegarden' will be strengthened so they can actually enforce the law,” said Jonathan Lines, Yuma County District 2 Board of Supervisors.

Another supervisor said this will impact our local economy.

“And my opinion is the state needs to put action and not just talk. If this gets passed as a bill and becomes law, the state needs to provide the funding so we can enforce it because counties can't do it,” said Yuma County District 5 Supervisor Lynn Pancraj.
