Yuma County Elections Services and Recorder’s Office agreement ending

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Recorder's Office will lose its oversight of the Elections Department by the end of the year. At Yuma County's most recent board meeting, supervisors voted unanimously to terminate the intergovernmental agreement between the Recorder's Office and the Elections Department.

This means election services will be overseen by the county administrator rather than the recorder.
Yuma County Supervisor Darren Simmons, a member of the Election Advisory Committee, explains what the recorder's main focus will be after Dec. 15.

“You know they're legally registered in the county and they take care of the registration and stuff,” said Darren Simmons, Yuma County Board of Supervisors District 3.

We also spoke with both candidates for Yuma County Recorder to find out what they think about the new changes.

“All of the voter fraud I've experienced has occurred without ever holding elected office, so it won't slow me down or stop me,” said Yuma County Recorder candidate David Lara (R).

“If elected, I welcome collaboration, so I love being involved in the hands-on side of government,” said Emilia Cortez (D), candidate for Yuma County Recorder.
