Yuma County finalized budget earlier in January – Yuma Pioneer

Yuma County finalized a tight budget for 2024 earlier this month.

Budgets are usually compiled by the end of the previous year, but this time there was a slight delay because the Colorado Legislature will hold a special session in November to deal with property tax relief.

Yuma County's total budget is $24.4 million compared to $27.85 million in 2023, which is significantly lower than in 2023 due to various adjustments.

However, the general fund has increased slightly to $7.76 million in 2024 compared to $7.63 million in 2023, an increase of about $130,000.

The sheriff's budget increased slightly to $1,193,000, but decreased by about $400,000 to $797,503 because the Yuma County Jail is no longer fully operational.

The commissioner's budget increased by approximately $180,000 to $820,516.33. The county clerk's budget increased by about $20,000 to $453,634. The county treasurer's budget increased by about $30,000 to $301,229. The county assessor's budget increased by about $27,000 to bring him to $462,780.

The Yuma County Fair's budget increased by more than $40,000 to $234,772.93. The cost of maintaining the arena decreased by nearly $60,000 to his $137,353.

The county's emergency medical services budget was increased by nearly $200,000 to $245,500 to increase funding for county ambulance services.

The county's contribution to the Yuma County Landfill is $130,205. The total budget for the landfill is $563,805, with contributions from the municipalities of Yuma, Eckley and Ray.

The Yuma County Road and Bridge Fund decreased approximately $1.3 million to $4.88 million due to lower general and administrative expenses and lower construction costs, despite increased maintenance.

Human Services was $6.78 million, a decrease of approximately $600,000.

The county's budget also includes salaries for the East Yuma County Cemetery District, West Yuma County Cemetery District, Northeast Revolving Loan Fund, Weed and Pest Control District, and public stewardship, totaling $647,797. .

In the grant fund, state aid has decreased by about $800,000 to $321,500, while federal aid, which has been zero in recent years, is set at $464,000.
