Yuma, Arizona – Yuma County recorder David Lara has announced the launch of the Fraud Notify Alert, designed to help residents notify them of document recordings and protect them from title fraud and other fraudulent applications.
This service allows users to monitor recorded documents linked to their name or business name. If a document is recorded with one of the names entered, users will receive an email notification so that they can review the document and take actions if necessary.
“This isn’t prevention, but it helps us monitor it and get to know what’s going on before it goes too far,” said Yuma County recorder David Lara.
The fraud notification alert was created in response to growing concerns about fraud that initially affected large cities but has since spread to small rural communities like Yuma.
“Unfortunately, we’ve got a few cases. We were originally a big city, but now we’re a smaller rural community,” Lara said. “This is a way to help the community. I would recommend that everyone sign up. It’s a free service with no cost, it’s a long way.”
The program aims to increase transparency, act as an early warning system for fraudulent recordings, and give residents the opportunity to respond quickly.
Local resident Roy Cooper shared concerns about the rise in attempts to fraud, saying, “I had just removed my landlines about two months ago and I’ve already got calls all day long. I was at least 15 when the landlines were there.”
