Yuma County officials searching for man who damaged campaign signs with vehicle, machete

Yuma County, Arizona (AZFamily) — Authorities in southern Arizona are searching for a suspect seen on video defacing campaign signs this week.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said it received multiple reports of a person vandalizing nearby signs. East 40th Street and South Foothills Boulevard Located in Fortuna Foothills.

According to YCSO, multiple people reported that the man ran over the sign with his car, kicked the sign, and slashed the sign with a machete.

Law enforcement officials were unable to find a suspect or vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses.

According to Arizona law, it is a second-degree misdemeanor for anyone to “intentionally remove, alter, deface, or conceal a political sign of a candidate for public office without permission.”

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from anyone with information about the vehicle or suspect. If your political campaign sign is damaged or stolen, contact your local law enforcement.
