YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – With less than 24 hours until Election Day, voters will be making their voices heard across the country, including in Arizona and California.

Yuma County Recorder Richard Colwell said he has been preparing for this election for months.

“We’re taking extra safety precautions. We’ve had meetings. We’re ready,” Colwell said.

Officials from the Department of Justice will also be present at multiple polling places in Yuma County on Election Day to monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws, as is customary, the county said. The Recorder’s Office says this year’s early voting turnout appears to be better than the 2020 presidential election.

“More than 6,200 voters turned out during the 27 days of early voting, which is higher than the 5,300-plus in the 2020 general election, which shows that voters are coming to the polls,” Colwell said.

As of Monday afternoon, the county had processed more than 45,000 ballots. Voters spoke Monday said this election is important.

The advocacy group Rural Arizona Action also announced that it reached more than 500,000 voters in rural areas across Arizona, including Yuma County, during its “Rural Votes Count” campaign.

ID is required at vote centers unless you are submitting a mail-in ballot. The Yuma County Recorder’s Office says it’s too late to mail the ballots through the post office because they don’t arrive on time.

“You have to get that ballot in by 7 p.m. What I would suggest is that if you have a ballot, drop it off at one of the six drop-off locations in Yuma County. We’ll pick it up. We’ll pick it up today and tomorrow at 7 p.m.,” Colwell said.

Polling places open at 6 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7 p.m. See the complete list of polling places. here .
