The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who vandalized a political campaign sign. Police say the man ran over the sign with his pickup truck, kicked it and cut it with a machete.
Multiple people witnessed the vandalism at a busy Yuma intersection during the day Wednesday. However, when officers arrived, the man and his truck were gone.
Tania Pavlak is a public affairs specialist for the Sheriff’s Office.
“We have issued a press release to allow the public to assist the Sheriff’s Office in identifying the subject. We also have a description of the vehicle and are looking for any information to identify the suspect.” she said.
Under Arizona law, anyone who intentionally removes, alters, defaces or obscures a political sign of a candidate for public office without permission is charged with a second-degree misdemeanor.
The man was issued a criminal complaint and thanked the community for its support, the sheriff’s office said.
