Yuma County Sherriff’s Office receives grant from Governor’s Office of Highway Safety

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) has been awarded two grants totaling $23,050 from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

The funding will be used to purchase new radar equipment for speed enforcement, which will increase officers' ability to conduct additional traffic enforcement actions.

Yuma County has seen an increase in speeding violations and crashes, with speed playing a part.

YCSO says these new radar devices will immediately make Yuma County roads safer.

“Right now we already have speed measurement devices, but these radars can replace some of our older models… but just because we have new radar equipment doesn't mean we're not currently enforcing speeding of any kind,” said Tania Pawalku, public information specialist for YCSO.

YCSO says they look forward to working with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety to continue making Yuma County a safer place.
