Yuma County supervisors Pancrazi and Porchas endorse Gallego in U.S. Senate race

Two Yuma County supervisors announced last week that they would support the Democratic candidate in Arizona's U.S. Senate election in November.

Supervisors Lynn Pancraj and Martin Porchas met with reporters at Cafecito in downtown Yuma last Wednesday to formally endorse Rep. Ruben Gallego.

Gallego, who was unopposed after Tuesday's primary, will face off against Republican Kali Lake, who defeated Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.

Lake ran unsuccessfully for Arizona governor in 2022, losing to Gov. Katie Hobbs. Lake continues to argue his victory in court, to no avail.

“We deserve to be treated better than Potash Lake,” Supervisor Porchas said. “What we need is a leader who is committed to real solutions, understands the complexities of our border communities, recognizes the results of fair elections, and will work tirelessly to ensure our policies reflect our values, and that's Ruben Gallego.”

Pancraj said he worked with Gallego in the state Legislature and accompanied him on agricultural tours in Yuma, learning about Yuma County's key industries.

“Ruben has the experience, knowledge and ability to work across party lines to get legislation passed for the people of Arizona,” she said. “His opponent, Cari Lake, is a person who just does what she's told. Cari has no legislative experience, is unwilling to work across party lines, and is proposing draconian measures on women's health care rights.”

Lake's campaign announced on July 2 that it had opened an office at the America First Resource Center on Main Street, formerly the Yuma Catholic High School thrift store. Pancraj and Porchas said they expect Gallego to open a campaign office in Yuma, but that he frequently visits the Yuma area, including Summerton and San Luis, to meet with elected officials and community members.
