YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Board of Supervisors has approved the county's tentative budget for the coming fiscal year.
The budget was just over $570 million, about $4 million less than the previous year.
“This will be a guiding light for our county as we serve our residents, businesses and visitors in the coming year,” Yuma County Executive Ian McGaughey said.
The supervisors have tentatively approved the budget, meaning it cannot be increased but can be decreased.
The budget helps fund a variety of projects throughout the county.
“We have so many great programs in place to ensure Yuma County residents, businesses and visitors can safely enjoy life and thrive,” McGaughey said.
Yuma County Board of Supervisors Tony Reyes explains why this budget is so important.
“We have to have a balanced budget. We have to balance all our revenues to meet our expenses. All our capital improvement projects, roads, buildings, everything has to be within the budget. If we don't, we have money but we can't spend it,” Reyes said.
McGaughey talks about some specific projects that will be covered in the budget.
“We're building a new three-story, 100,000-square-foot Yuma County Administrative Services Building here on Main Street to serve our residents and visitors. We also have a beautiful park for people to see,” McGaughey said.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hold a final hearing to formally approve the budget on June 23.
