YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Victims’ Rights Commission will hold a domestic violence awareness rally Thursday night at the Yuma Book Library.
The vigil is being held in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Its purpose is to remember those who died, honor those who survived, and connect with those working to end violence.
There will be live music, a tribute to the victims and survivors will share messages. Amberley’s Place is one of the organizations working with the Victims’ Rights Commission. They say the event helps to recognize and support people suffering from domestic violence.
“It’s an issue that we need to pay attention to. It’s often hidden in plain sight, it’s something we don’t want to acknowledge or talk about, but it’s something that we need to pay attention to in our communities. This is so important to families who are suffering,” said Tori Bourguignon, executive director of Amberley’s Place.
Several family members and friends of these victims are expected to attend. The event will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
