Former President Donald Trump on Monday accused President Joe Biden of remarks about a Chinese spy balloon that was shot down in February.

“That’s a really stupid statement,” Trump told Fox News anchor Brett Byer in an interview at a golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

An Air Force fighter shot down a suspected Chinese reconnaissance balloon on February 4 after it flew past the United States and near classified locations, including: Malmstrom Air Force Base Montana and Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. The former base stores intercontinental ballistic missiles, and the Air Force operates his B-2 Spirit stealth bombers from the latter base.
China protested the downing, claiming the balloon was a civilian weather research platform. The Pentagon has confirmed that a second reconnaissance balloon flew over Latin American countries on February 3.
“If I were president, they would never have spy balloons. There would never be reconnaissance balloons over our country,” Trump added. “That reconnaissance balloon was passing over our nuclear facility and taking pictures, but after that flight ended, we killed it. Trump administration officials have disputed Pentagon claims that Chinese spy balloons flew over the country while Trump was in office.
