An attorney for CBS News predicted on Thursday that the case against former President Donald Trump would “disappear before the jury” once former Attorney General William Barr is cross-examined.
Trump acquitted of all charges in Thursday’s arraignment after special counsel Jack Smith secured four indictments against Trump in connection with his efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election. Admitted. Smith previously secured 37 indictments against Trump in June based on an alleged investigation into classified documents. “He’s going to be cross-examined… how many man hours did that take? How many witnesses have you interviewed?” said at the panel. “Did you send someone to see the machine? What did you do to actually verify these claims? To confirm what Mr. Giuliani said he needed to go and check with the president Have you ever been there? As far as Bill Burr is concerned, the answer to any of these questions would be no.”

Barr defended Smith’s charges in an interview with CNN Wednesday night, claiming it was “not abuse.”
“Maybe I was too cautious and didn’t proceed with the case,” Barr told CNN host Kaitran Collins, a former White House correspondent for the Daily Caller. “I am also concerned that this incident will progress during the election and that people will be distracted from the election issue. As a matter of fact, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with prosecution, I don’t think it’s abuse.”
Legal experts said many of the acts Smith claimed to be criminal in the indictment appear to be protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz said the indictment attacked not only the First Amendment, but also the rights of attorneys under President Trump’s Sixth Amendment.
“People who claim there is no fraud are actually investigating, are actually doing the work, and can back it up with something other than ‘No, I don’t think there is fraud and I will investigate.’ If he can’t prove he can, then when it comes to the jury who must find out what he knew beyond reasonable doubt? It’s useless in front,” Parlatore said.
