U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) are teaming up to introduce legislation that would protect low-income Americans from rising energy costs and put America on a path to energy independence.
Cruise invoiceA bill sponsored by several Senate Republicans would repeal the natural gas tax included in the Biden Administration's Anti-Inflation Act, a controversial new law from Biden's Environmental Protection Agency that has increased operating costs for many American energy companies, ultimately raising costs for everyday consumers.
Current estimates suggest that this tax alone would increase energy bills for 180 million American homes and 5.5 million businesses.
According to Rep. Tuberville (R-Auburn), the bill would specifically repeal the methane emissions tax enshrined in law to ensure more affordable energy for Americans.

“The Biden Administration is once again prioritizing woke environmentalists over the American people,” said Taborville. “Since day one, Joe Biden has waged a war on American energy, raising costs and shipping American jobs overseas. The last thing the American people need right now is higher taxes and more government red tape.”
“I'm proud to be part of this bill that puts American taxpayers first and works to make America energy independent.”
The IRA methane emissions tax would begin at $900 per ton of methane in calendar year 2024, increasing to $1,200 per ton in 2025 and $1,500 per ton after 2026. The tax on methane emissions would affect both pipeline operators and oil and gas producers.
Rep. August Plueger (R-Texas, 11th District) has introduced a companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that has already passed the House.
