CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Asks Biden Point Blank How He Feels About Dems Pushing Him Off The Ticket

Ahead of his speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, CNN's Caitlin Collins asked President Joe Biden how he felt about the Democratic Party removing him from the running for president in 2024.

As Biden was on the street Monday afternoon ahead of his speech at the Democratic National Convention that evening, Collins caught Biden's ear and asked him how he felt about not being chosen as the party's presidential nominee.

“Mr. President, what's your speech about?” Collins yelled at Biden, who looked directly at her, then turned his head to another person and asked, “Are you ready to pass the baton?”

“Mr. President,” Collins said, addressing Biden again, “President Trump claims that with Harris in the lead, Biden has been ousted in a 'coup' and a 'party hijack.' What is your response to that?”

“I'm having trouble hearing you,” Biden responded, stepping aside while still grasping the podium.

“Donald Trump is claiming that you've been removed as the top candidate, which amounts to a coup by your party. What do you make of that claim?” Collins asked.

“His competence is still in question,” Biden replied, shaking hands.

“His what?” Collins asked, while Biden gestured towards her with a dismissive smile.

After the exchange with Collins, others could be heard asking Biden questions about the president's state of mind and the progress of hostage negotiations regarding victims held by Hamas in Gaza. (RELATED: CNN host questions Nancy Pelosi's role in Biden withdrawal)

On July 21, Biden gave up on reelection and endorsed Kamala Harris. Democratic Party leaders, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, former President Barack Obama, and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, reportedly worked behind the scenes with party members to pressure Biden to drop out of the race due to concerns about lower-level voting.

In Twitter's “Space” Interview During a debate with Elon Musk on August 12, President Trump said Biden, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, had been replaced in a “coup.” The Democratic-led pressure campaign to call for Biden to resign began after Biden performed poorly against Trump in the June 27 presidential debate.

Collins told CNN host Erin Burnett that Biden told her Monday night's speech at the Democratic National Convention would be an “unforgettable moment.” She said it was painful to hear Biden's response to a question about a “coup,” adding that the president “made a joke about stability.”

Collins said Biden plans to attend only the first day of the Democratic National Convention before leaving for a “vacation” with his family, which begins on Monday at the United Center and runs through Thursday.
