America is currently drowning in $36 trillion in federal debt.
Previous efforts to reform the nation’s finances have failed, but in Washington, D.C., the city will have a new sheriff starting Jan. 20, leading the police department with the boldness needed to clean up the fiscal mess. We are planning to take appropriate measures. Achieving a different outcome compared to past efforts will require Republican unity.
Thankfully, President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to restore stability to the American economy has close allies in Congress. Republican Representative James Comer of Kentucky, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said in an interview with the Daily Caller News Foundation that the new government efficiency subdivision led by Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia The outline of the committee (DOGE) was explained. “I don’t think there will be any shortage of waste, fraud and abuse for that subcommittee to investigate,” Comer said.
Comer said DOGE will realize health care cost savings through reducing Medicare fraud and reforming areas such as drug patents and pharmacy benefit management.
“One of the things I would encourage this administration and Pam Bondi to do is encourage the U.S. attorney to focus more on Medicare and Medicaid fraud,” Comer said. “It’s not a priority for many jurisdictions, but it needs to be.”
Comer said Congress would adopt DOGE cuts through a legislative process known as “reconciliation,” which does not require a 60-vote threshold in the Senate.
“We need to reconcile because we’ll never get 60 votes,” Comer said. “Democrats don’t want to cut anything, right? Nothing.”
Comer’s DOGE has a similar name to President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), run by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
President Trump’s DOGE sets its own policy deadline July 4, 2026 (150th anniversary of the founding of the United States). Comer said he intends to maintain the DOGE subcommittee throughout the 119th Congress, which ends in January 2027.
Ramaswami said FOX News’ Maria Bartiromo said DOGE is “the biggest effort to shrink government in our lifetimes” and “hopes that certain agencies will be completely eliminated.” .
Comer said the Department of Education is a classic example of a redundant federal bureaucracy that has outlived its usefulness.
He said there is overlap because each state has its own Department of Education. Comer said it would be better to cut out the middlemen and send federal education funding directly to states in the form of block grants. Federal student loans are administered by the Treasury Department.
Comer wants to get Democrats on board, but said he’s no Pollyanna.
“I have yet to meet a Democrat who is concerned about $36 trillion in debt and concerned about underfunding Social Security,” Comer said. “Maybe there are, but I’ve never met them or they’re very private about their opinions.”
I can’t wait for this.
Our debt-to-GDP ratio, e.g. the size of our debt Compared to our productivity economy, it grew from less than 31 percent in 1980 to nearly 57 percent by 2000, and has grown rapidly to 120 percent today. According to to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. This is unsustainable and will bankrupt America’s future. Conservatives have a unique opportunity to create a generational shift in America’s fiscal future. The only way these big spending reforms will happen is if the Republican Party remains united.
Trump has a track record of considerable success during the “offseason” in primaries of softer Republicans who would be far less likely to use the political muscle necessary to stop the fiscal tilt. loaded with. Comer is confident that Trump’s cost-cutting measures will pass thanks to Republican unity.
“Obviously, I can only speak on behalf of the House,” Comer said. “I think we can get just about anything they want passed out of the House.”
We’re inundated with capricious spending from excessive COVID-19 stimulus checks (full of scams), plus more Green New Deal scams and pet project giveaways.
Mr. Trump and Republicans in Congress have a strong mandate to rein in government spending, which will also keep inflation in check. That’s what the American people want and deserve.
