The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors certified the 2024 primary election Monday morning.
The Board celebrated what was considered a successful election. Voter turnout for the election was just over 30%, which was slightly lower than the past few elections, but higher than the average for the past 20 elections. The longest voter wait was three minutes, with final results known faster than in the past 20 elections.
However, the board still faced allegations of election fraud from the public, which have become common since 2020.
Director Thomas Galvin has lost patience with a woman who says she trusts elections in the Middle East and Russia more than Arizona.
“Who would have more confidence in the elections in the unnamed Middle Eastern countries of Russia and Israel? That’s a joke. … Go ahead Russia, enjoy voting in Russia, see what happens.” said Galvin.
He was responding to Barbara Hiatt, whose husband Don Hiatt lost the primary race for Maricopa County Recorder.
Several people came to the board meeting to object to the certification of the results, known as a “canvas.” The board unanimously considered the election regarding their grievances.
The Secretary of State is scheduled to certify the statewide election results on Thursday.
