In a letter to church leaders and voters on Wednesday, CatholicVote warned that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' blatantly “anti-Catholic” policies present a “clear and imminent danger.”
Pope Francis said on September 13 that both Harris and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump are “anti-life” because of Harris' support for abortion and Trump's “failure to care for immigrants,” and that voters must decide which candidate is the “lesser evil” in the next presidential election. The Catholic Vote warned that Harris' pro-abortion stance and rhetoric would cause “real harm” to the American people. According to According to the memo obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“To our pastors, priests, religious, Catholic brothers and sisters, and all people of good will, we write to warn you that Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, represent a 'clear and imminent danger' to Catholics and to all Church-sponsored institutions that seek to remain faithful to the Church's teachings,” the letter reads.
Brian Burch, president of Catholic Vote and author of the 19-page memo, told the Daily Caller News Foundation that President Trump's immigration policies are inconsistent with Harris' stance on abortion.
“[I] “I don't think it's fair to compare President Trump's desire to bring order and stability to the border with Kamala Harris's stance on abortion, which will destroy millions of lives,” Burch said. “The moral substance of these two policy positions is very different. President Donald Trump does not want immigration laws that will destroy the lives of millions of immigrants. Kamala Harris does want policies that do that when it comes to unborn children.”
The CatholicVote memo argues that Harris has “consistently gone beyond mere pro-abortion support” and points out that she opposes two bills, one of which is: prohibit The baby feels pain Another She passed a bill that would provide medical care for babies born alive after an attempted abortion, and Harris also “made history” as the first sitting vice president to endorse abortion. campaign She visited the abortion facility in March as part of a “reproductive freedom tour.”

“The key policy issues supported by Harris and Waltz pose an existential threat to Catholics and all people of good will,” Burch said.
The memo also cited Harris's explicit anti-Catholic rhetoric, alleging that she has grilled Catholic federal judges about their religious beliefs. In 2018, Harris called on Brian Buescher to defend his membership in the Knights of Columbus and his pro-life stance, saying “his belief that marriage is between a man and a woman, as mandated by Catholic teaching, disqualifies him from serving as a federal judge,” the letter said. “This candidate doesn't just disagree with Catholics; she harbors deep hostility toward them,” Burch warned, noting that Harris has demonstrated “pervasive hostility toward Catholic institutions, Catholic moral beliefs, religious freedom, and policies that undermine the common good of our nation.”
CatholicVote has documented nearly 300 reported incidents of violence and vandalism against Catholics since the Supreme Court's landmark decision overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022 was leaked, the memo said, and most of those cases have gone virtually unpunished under the Biden-Harris administration, though the administration has repeatedly charged pro-life protesters who peacefully protest at abortion clinics with disrupting services.
“The Church has not taken a formal position on the candidates and asks Catholics to properly form their consciences in light of facts and moral principles, and our memo seeks to help Catholics connect those dots,” Burch said. “The Pope's phrasing of the lesser of two evils seems to beg the question of which candidate truly poses the greater threat and evil both to Catholics and the public good, and the answer based on this memo is clearly Harris Waltz.”
Burch also said opposition to Harris isn't just about religion.
“Catholic moral beliefs are not unique to Catholics,” he said. “In fact, they are understandable by ordinary human reason and apply to all human beings. This is not a sectarian, isolated perspective for Catholics. These are moral truths that apply to all people. And the threat she poses to Catholics is not unique to us. It's a threat to the decency and goodwill of all Americans.”
