“Regarding the Butler assassination attempt, the task force’s request for information was characterized by the FBI as suggesting ‘significant law enforcement sensitivities,’ and subsequent FBI disclosures were classified as ‘special considerations.’ It was done.[s] unique to this issue,” the report said. “As for the assassination attempt in Florida, the gunman is alive and awaiting arrest and likely indictment, but the FBI has not provided any documents in response to the task force’s request, and the I only explained the situation once on September 25th.

The FBI also failed to provide a digital analysis of Butler Larry Shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks’ devices and Crooks’ “online activities and certain other documents repeatedly requested by the task force.”
“An ongoing investigation,” whether rooted in generalized “law enforcement sensitivities” or an indefinite “law enforcement privilege” derived from common law. The phrase should not be treated as a magic spell that negates Congress’ broad access to relevant information “necessary to carry out its constitutional functions,” the report states.
During the course of its investigation, the Special Committee accessed more than 18,000 pages of documents and records of 46 witness interviews. Ultimately, it concluded that the attempt on Trump’s life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was “preventable and should never have happened.”
“However, there was no specific moment or decision that brought Thomas Matthew Crooks close to assassinating the former president,” the report states. “Various failures in planning, execution, and leadership leading up to July 13, 2024, combined with pre-existing conditions that undermined the effectiveness of the human and material assets deployed on that date, resulted in the failure of the former President and all created a safe working environment for employees who were exposed to serious danger at the campaign event. ”
