On Wednesday, Senator Britt spoke passionately about the joy of motherhood and the important role IVF plays in helping future parents experience the miracle of life. “As a mother, I know firsthand that there is no greater joy in the world than being a mother. IVF helps future parents across the country experience the miracle of life and start and grow their families. That's why I strongly support continued access to IVF nationwide,” said Senator Britt.
She emphasized the family-friendly nature of access to IVF and its importance to millions of people struggling with infertility. She noted that approximately 2% of babies in the United States are born with IVF. Britt noted that millions of people have been born with the help of IVF in recent decades and emphasized the need for continued access to IVF nationwide. She also praised Alabama for acting quickly to protect access to IVF earlier this year.
“IVF is legal and available in every state across America, including my home state. Governor Ivey and the Alabama Legislature took swift and overwhelming action earlier this year to protect Alabama residents' access to IVF.”
The IVF Protection Act aims to provide certainty and peace of mind to prospective parents regarding the legal status of IVF across the United States. Senator Britt emphasized the bill's focus on protecting access to IVF and protecting religious freedom, and called for the Senate's swift support. Britt praised Senator Cruz's leadership on IVF access and reiterated his commitment to fighting for families.
“At the end of the day, the American people want secure borders, safe cities, stable prices, and strong families. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle know they cannot tout the Biden Administration's record on these issues – another failure after failure – so they must instead resort to distorting and misrepresenting the Republican positions on the issues, including our support for IVF access. In short, the American people deserve better, and there is no better path than our bill – a path of solutions based on common ground, not fake votes and scare tactics.”
Republican senators have highlighted access to IVF as a top issue heading into the fall general election amid ongoing political wrangling.
