U.S. Senator Katie Britt is fighting back with her Republican colleagues to repeal the Biden administration's controversial natural gas tax, introduced by the Stop Inflation Act, which the EPA has imposed on various U.S. energy companies that allegedly violate newly enacted methane emissions limits.
Current estimates suggest that this tax alone would increase energy bills for 180 million American homes and 5.5 million businesses.
This week, Britt slammed the Biden administration for its hostile policies toward domestically produced energy, saying its push for greening efforts is undermining the overall well-being of the nation.

“As this Administration wages war on American energy, I will work with my colleagues to ensure that our domestic energy producers are not choked by President Biden's red tape,” said Rep. Britt (R-Montgomery). “For the past three years, this Administration has been intent on prioritizing its irresponsible and partisan Green New Deal policies, which have ultimately undermined our national and economic security.”
“The time has come for America to achieve not just energy independence but energy dominance.”
The IRA methane emissions tax would begin at $900 per ton of methane in calendar year 2024, increasing to $1,200 per ton in 2025 and $1,500 per ton after 2026. The tax on methane emissions would affect both pipeline operators and oil and gas producers.
