Chris Lane, who has lived in Homewood his entire life and owns a local business, is running for the third seat on the Homewood City Council.
Lane, who previously competed for mayor in 2020, explained that his choice to enter public service was influenced by “numerous discussions and reflections” regarding the city’s future and local leadership’s responsibilities.
“Homewood is home to so many wonderful people who share common goals. It’s a hardworking community that deserves trustworthy leadership and a secure future,” Lane expressed in his announcement. “Yet, that trust has been challenged in recent years. Too frequently, significant decisions are made without public input, and by the time residents realize the implications, it’s often too late.”
In his 2020 mayoral campaign, Lane concentrated on enhancing transparency and making city decision-making more accessible to the public. He believes these concerns are still relevant as they look toward 2025.
“We have more work ahead in the next five years,” he stated.
With the city switching to a mayoral governance structure following the 2022 referendum, Lane feels prepared to contribute effectively to the council.
“In this new government format, I am confident that I can be focused, effective, and dedicated in my role. I bring valuable business experience, attention to detail, and the straightforwardness that has always guided me,” he remarked. “I aim to collaborate with all council members, no matter their backgrounds or viewpoints, to ensure our focus aligns with the community’s best interests.”
Lane plans to prioritize protecting vital aspects of the community, such as local businesses, neighborhoods, and schools.
“This isn’t just about politics; it’s about holding ourselves accountable,” he added. “It’s about restoring leadership that listens, respects processes, and keeps the public informed at every stage.”
Emphasizing his strong connection to Homewood, Lane expressed a need for practical leadership. “What we need isn’t more arrogance but real leadership. It’s about thorough consideration, tough questions, and transparent decisions. I can’t promise change, but I will strive to be honest with you and keep my commitments.”
The Homewood City Election is set for August 26, 2026.
