Coconino County’s Updated Risk Mitigation Plan
Coconino County is revising its multijudicial risk mitigation strategy to enhance preparedness and lower community risks, especially as disasters become increasingly more frequent and severe across the nation. This effort involves collaboration among various counties, including the cities of Flagstaff, Fredonia, Williams, Tusayan, Page, and Northern Arizona University.
The objective here is to evaluate risks posed by both natural and manmade hazards and to pinpoint ways to reduce or eliminate these threats. Central to this process is feedback from residents, business owners, and local organizations—it all helps planners grasp community issues, priorities, and historical contexts.
To kick off public engagement, the county has introduced a Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey, which is currently accessible at coconino.az.gov/feedback.
Public input is crucial; it offers valuable perspectives and ensures that the needs of all residents are taken into account. Throughout the planning phase, there will be plenty of chances for community involvement.
Crafting a robust hazard mitigation plan will greatly benefit the community. It allows for a thorough approach to decreasing disaster risks and opens doors for accessing state and federal funding for mitigation and disaster relief. These funds could support initiatives like brush clearing for wildfire prevention and improvements to drainage systems for flood control, as well as aid in covering costs related to disaster response and recovery.
