“There is something very different about the Manhattan District Attorney’s indictment of Donald Trump for his actions towards the presidency in the hush payment scheme. Hayes said the indictment was a test of the “guardrails” and “binding power” of the law.
“The reality is that if a former president can commit any crime, we have a king, not a president. And I think the test here for Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice was essentially whether they were going to exonerate Donald Trump from any and all actions,” Reed said.
Reed said the federal government has a duty to enforce the rule of law on former presidents, and if it doesn’t, “with this one job for four or eight years, I’m going to be at every level.” He stressed that it will show that he can freely make policies.
