The Department of Justice (DOJ) spent significantly more taxpayer dollars investigating former President Donald Trump than it did investigating President Joe Biden, according to a Department of Justice spending report released Friday.

The total cost of the Smith investigation also includes about $7.3 million in items related to staff salaries, travel, rent and benefits, according to the expenditure report. The Justice Department also paid a total of about $7.2 million for security for Mr. Smith and the special counsel “when appropriate.”
