This month's primary election will determine the seat of a new Coconino County Attorney. Bill Ring is retiring after eight years as Coconino County Attorney. He began his position as Coconino County Attorney in 2016. Two candidates are running to replace him as County Attorney: Ammon Barker and Gary Perlmutter. Barker was recognized as an Arizona felony prosecutor in 2014 and currently leads the Coconino County Attorney's Office as Chief Deputy Attorney. Perlmutter has worked as a law enforcement officer for 10 years, as an attorney for 30 years, and as director of the county's public defender's office for 14 years. Both candidates are running as Democrats. Ballots must be returned to the Coconino County Elections Office by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30. The deadline to mail your ballot to the Elections Office is this Friday. Early voting is available in person at several locations throughout the county.
