‘Even The Mafia Doesn’t Do That’: Bill Maher Takes Aim At Liberals Going After RFK Jr.’s Wife

Comedian Bill Maher criticized liberals for attacking Cheryl Hines, the wife of former 2024 independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy.

On August 23, Hines Social Media She also said she “deeply respects” her husband's decision to join the campaign of 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in solidarity with the president, following Kennedy's support for the former president.

Maher blasted the left for treating Hines like the enemy because she had made her differences with Kennedy clear but had not condemned him.

“Larry David reportedly described his wife, Cheryl Hines, as 'the best person I've ever met and the only person in Hollywood who has no enemies,' but now she doesn't blame her husband because she made it clear when he made a decision he disagreed with,” Maher said.

“You want to know why I'm more angry at the left than I was before? Here's the thing. There's an ugliness to them that they never had before. None of the liberals I grew up looking up to would do this. Go after your wife. Not even the mafia would do that.”

Maher said it was absurd to expect Hines to sacrifice her marriage to make a political point that would appeal to liberals on Twitter. (Related: Second battleground state rejects RFK Jr.'s request to remove him from the ballot)

“There are a lot of people these days who we call 'liberals in theory'. In theory, they hate bullying. It's terrible. In practice, their attitude is, 'sticking your head in a toilet is not bullying,'” Maher said.

“In theory, liberals are compassionate,” he continued, “but in reality, this guy can't even comprehend the most basic dilemma shared by all human beings: that sometimes you have to accept something when you get married.”

Kennedy announced his intention to remove his name from the ballot in 10 battleground states when he made a campaign stop on Aug. 23. The former independent presidential candidate won appeals on Friday to have his name removed from the ballot in North Carolina and Michigan.
