Ex-Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack supports Spiro Cheriogotis in the Mobile mayoral election

As the Mobile mayoral election approaches its conclusion, former Baldwin County Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack has thrown his support behind Spiro Cheriogotis. He urged voters to “not take this election for granted.”

Mack, who retired from law enforcement in 2024 after 33 years, made his endorsement in a Facebook post this week. He emphasized, “For my mobile friends. Don’t overlook this vital chance to not only sustain Mobile but elevate this election.”

His backing lends significant law enforcement credibility to Cheriogotis’s campaign.

First elected in 2006, Mack served five terms as Baldwin County Sheriff, leading over 100 deputies. Throughout his time in office, he tackled issues like violent crime and substance abuse while responding to the rapidly growing demands of the county. He served as president of the Alabama Sheriff’s Association in 2014 and was appointed sheriff the following year. Additionally, Mack was part of the National Sheriff’s Association board, focusing on child abuse, border security, and major crime issues.

Cheriogotis, a lawyer and former district court judge, is campaigning on a platform that aims to enhance public safety, education, and overall quality of life. He emphasizes his commitment to reducing crime, promoting public education and workforce development, and improving amenities like parks and reliable public transport.

“Mobile is not just my home; it’s where I want my kids to feel proud to grow up,” Cheriogotis stated.

Mack’s support provides a boost to Cheriogotis’s campaign, which is in competition with state legislator Barbara Drummond (D-Mobile) for the election in November. Drummond has been a notable figure in Mobile since 2014, previously serving as the executive director of Mobile City’s Management Services and as a member of the Mobile County Commission.

As both candidates highlight their extensive public service records, the mayoral race presents a contrast, particularly with Mack’s law enforcement background. Voters will choose the next mayor of Mobile on September 23rd.
