Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Texas Ted Cruz are urging President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) to resume drug deterrent efforts at the country’s airports and transport facilities.
The GOP Senator wrote to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche on Monday, demanding that the DOJ revive the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) search. “While it is absolutely unacceptable to violate the constitutional rights of passengers or engage in discrimination of any kind, the DEA should work to address the issues identified in the Department of Justice’s OIG report. “Prohibiting DEA agents and task force officers from making these important blocking efforts in the transport hubs only allows fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs to come to our country through our passing hubs and on our streets.”
Biden DOJ has halted its program at mass transport facilities after Inspector Michael Horowitz discovered that DEA’s transport blocking practices were not in line with agency policies on the search for agreements. Blackburn and Cruises claim that the success of the DEA’s sabotage efforts is controversial, citing drug attack data at Nashville International Airport and Chicago’s Midway International Airport as a result of the program.
