FACT CHECK: No, Photos Do Not Show Donald Trump And Secret Service Agents Smiling After Attempted Assassination

These images have been digitally altered. The original photos were shared by the AP newsroom, and no one is laughing.

Fact check:

Trump spoke out about the assassination attempt that took place in Butler, Pennsylvania, over the weekend, suggesting his survival may have been due to divine intervention. CNN“Only God prevented the unthinkable,” Trump wrote on social media, according to the outlet.

The X-shaped image shows Trump smiling with his hands above his head, with blood visible on the side of his face and ear, with the caption “Do you think they bought it?”

A second photo posted to the thread shows a bloody Trump with his arms raised in the air, surrounded by Secret Service agents who all appear to be laughing. The caption for the post reads, “Why are the Secret Service laughing? It's staged.”
