Social media users claim the footage shows Palestinians celebrating a ceasefire while in prison. One user wrote: “When Palestinian hostages, abductees and political prisoners heard of the ceasefire, the occupied POW camp erupted with joy!”
This claim is misleading. Check Your Fact found the video through a reverse image search. The video, originally published by Athas Media, shows Lebanese prisoners celebrating the fall of the Syrian regime.
“Roumiyeh Prison at night. Prisoners chant takbeer inside Roumiyeh Prison in Lebanon after Syrian rebels took control of the city of Homs,” the post reads.
Although the video is from December 2024, the ceasefire agreement entered into force in January 2025, so the video could not show people celebrating the ceasefire agreement. According to reports, Syrian rebels overthrew the Syrian regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad in the last weeks of 2024. PBS.
