Federal Jury Clears Most ‘Trump Train’ Drivers In 2020 Voter Intimidation Case

A federal jury in Texas on Monday dismissed most of a voter intimidation claim against a group of Trump supporters who surrounded a Biden-Harris campaign bus on Interstate 35 days before the 2020 presidential election, the Associated Press reported.

A jury found Eliazar Cisneros liable and acquitted five others in a civil lawsuit over the “Trump Train” that surrounded and slowed down a Biden-Harris campaign bus between San Antonio and Austin. According to According to the Associated Press, the judge ordered Cisneros to pay $10,000 in damages and $30,000 in punitive damages to bus driver Tim Holloway after he collided with a volunteer's vehicle while taking part in the bus convoy.

“We're just ready to feel like normal people again,” one of the defendants, Jolyne Meszaros, said, according to the Associated Press. “It's been over 1,000 days since we had a trial in court.”

According to the Associated Press, Holloway stressed that the initial complaint was not politically motivated.

“When I took on this case, politics were not on my mind that day at all. I'm grateful and proud of my team,” Holloway said.

No criminal charges were filed against the “Trump Train” participants, and Cisneros' lawyers announced plans to appeal the sentence, according to the Associated Press. Jurors began deliberations on September 20 to determine whether the “Trump Train” motorcade constituted political intimidation during the tense highway incident. According to The two-week civil trial also included testimony from Wendy Davis, a former Texas Democrat who filed a lawsuit against six Trump supporters, and two passengers on the bus.
