Radio host Hugh Hewitt said Thursday that Americans are becoming convinced that former President Donald Trump won the debate because they believe it was unfairly moderated.
ABC News debate modes Lindsey Davis and David Muir were criticized for condoning Harris' false statements while repeatedly fact-checking Trump's comments. Hewitt said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” that she was “not surprised” by Trump's comments Thursday. post Former President Trump has announced that he will not debate Vice President Kamala Harris again, citing growing public sentiment that the debates were “rigged.” (Related: Kamala Harris once thought a border wall was “un-American.” Now she supports it.)

“I think he knows he's on his way to winning Tuesday night's debate and I want to explain that. NFL fans are familiar with the phrase, 'After further investigation, the referees overturned their call on the field due to overwhelming evidence,' and the American public has determined that, after further investigation, the debate was rigged,” Hewitt said. “ABC and Disney certainly did everything in their power to hurt the former president and help Kamala Harris.”
“When you look back and see the very deep-rooted bias that emerged, it's almost like a legal war has become a media war, where there wasn't a single question about China, for example. I think Donald Trump is reading the inside information and the polls and he realizes that the American people are tired of ABC, that Kamala Harris didn't answer a single question directly, that the public is leaning toward Trump,” he added. “Trump is winning.”
VP Davis gave VP Harris the opportunity to speak about many of her policy changes, but VP Harris spent more time talking about her “values” rather than explaining her changing positions.
“There's been a huge wave of backlash that continues to wash over us. The debate is not a one-day thing. There was a huge audience, but also factoring in the huge backlash to ABC's gaffe,” Hewitt said. “It's all worked in favor of the former president because people don't like cheating and they viewed the debate as rigged… This was on a scale we've never seen before. Every question, every answer, there were five or six fact checks on Trump, and not one on Kamala Harris.”
Polls showed Harris won the debate with the support of more than 20% of Americans. CNN and YouGovBut Trump claimed in a post on Thursday that “the polls are clearly pointing to victory,” and on Wednesday Posts A screenshot of a particular poll showing viewers believe he will win.
