The Democratic Party ruling class' bloodless coup against their own democratically elected presidential candidate (who is also nominally the sitting President of the United States) is one of the most astonishing political developments of my lifetime.
Joe Biden is clearly physically and mentally disabled, Aiming for the presidential election For literally longer than I've been alive, Biden has been defiant in refusing to go anywhere since the June 27 presidential debate debacle, despite overwhelming pressure from party elites and media stooges to do just that. A wife like Lady Macbeth He is power-hungry and has a son with a criminal record who is in desperate need of a presidential pardon.
But the coup was successful: Biden became the first sitting president not to seek reelection after his first term. Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968Biden made this long-awaited announcement not in a solemn Oval Office speech three days later, but without even explaining his decision. Bedridden Tweet — from a personal, not even official account. It's the equivalent of divorcing your wife over text. As if that wasn't enough, the announcement came in the middle of five days where Biden was not seen in public. Suspicious, right?
The Democrats' decision to kill their own president in a coup is politically bizarre.
Set aside the infuriating hypocrisy of a so-called “democratic” party that is trying to remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot with outlandish constitutional theories while simultaneously trying to bankrupt, indict and imprison him for equally baseless reasons. Set aside a so-called “democratic” party that feigns ignorance that its overheated rhetoric sowed the seeds of a recent near-assassination of a political opponent and continues to paint that opponent as an existential threat to the American constitutional order. And set aside a so-called “democratic” party that rejected its own presumptive candidate. This is the polar opposite of a presidential primary where party heavyweights worked hard to shut out all viable competitors. Somewhere in Minnesota, Dean Phillips wants to talk.
Let’s put all that aside, because even under those conditions, a coup in which Biden topples President Kamala Harris would backfire spectacularly for the Democrats.
Democrats and the mainstream media are already working hard to “define” Harris for the American public, sometimes with some pretty dubious postscripts, like making it seem like she wasn't appointed as a “border official” in the Biden administration (which she was). But the bigger problem for Democrats is that Harris isn't an unknown. On the contrary, she's very well known, and just happens to be about as popular with the American public as a sexually transmitted disease.
Harris' Current average approval rating About 38 percent, according to NBC News vote A survey from June 2023 found her to be the least popular vice president in American history. Only 32% of Americans have a favorable view of her, 17 points below the popular opinion. Harris' 2020 presidential campaign A total failureself-destructed long before the first primary vote was cast, and as recently as a month or two ago, Democratic elites were openly debating whether she could still be considered as Biden's running mate in 2024. It's funny how you go from being the weakest link to being the great savior of “our democracy.”
Effectively, the path to the 270 electoral votes still runs through the Rust Belt states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. It is frankly odd for Democrats to replace a man who talks incessantly about his impoverished upbringing in Scranton with a Californian who boasts the most left-leaning voting record of any presidential candidate in modern history. Do Democrats really think that Harris' support for the Green New Deal and a national fracking ban will be well-received in Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale basins or Detroit's auto plants? Will white working- and middle-class voters concerned about a crime surge view favorably Harris' enthusiastic support of the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots that caused $2 billion worth of property damage?
Not that Uncle Joe is in much better shape politically as he collapses and dies, but the gross hypocrisy of the coup, which dealt yet another fatal blow to their plausible claims to “protect democracy,” dooms the Democrats to political failure. They would have been better off trying to drag a badly wounded incumbent across the finish line rather than switching horses mid-race.
of 14 million people voted for Biden Democratic primary voters will be outraged. Rust Belt voters will be confused. But Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, will be ecstatic.
