Former federal judge J. Michael Luttig told viewers on MSNBC Wednesday about similarities between the MAGA movement and the Revolution of 1776, following SCOTUS' decision to accept former President Donald Trump's immunity appeal. I warned you.
Luttig appeared on “Deadline: The White House” to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to hear oral arguments in President Trump's presidential immunity appeal. SCOTUS reports that Special Counsel Jack Smith's lawsuit in which Trump allegedly challenged the 2020 election results will be put on hold until the high court rules on Trump's appeal. Host Nicole Wallace asked the justices on the MSNBC panel what to expect now that Smith's case has dragged on. Ruttig argued that the “intellectual basis” of the MAGA movement was comparable to the revolution of 1776.
“America fought a revolution about 250 years ago to make sure there would never be another revolution, and the Constitution says there can't be another revolution,” Ruttig said. “But the intellectual foundation, the intellectual foundation of the MAGA movement, literally sounds like a revolution. And they compare themselves about that people to the revolution that we had in 1776. That. will be at issue over the next nine months.”
Trump's immunity appeal is the second case involving a former president before the U.S. Supreme Court. The justices previously heard oral arguments in Trump's appeal of Colorado's decision to exclude him from the state's Republican primary for allegedly violating the 14th Amendment's “insurrectionist clause.” was being examined.
The justices are currently scheduled to hear oral arguments from Trump's lawyers regarding presidential immunity during the week of April 22nd.
