PHOENIX — A man accused of stealing keys to election security equipment in Maricopa County is also suspected of being involved in a separate theft at an Arizona Senate building.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials confirmed Thursday that the man identified in security camera footage from the Arizona Senate building on June 19 is 27-year-old Walter Lingfield.
DPS said the man, identified as Lingfield, entered a restricted area of the building on June 19 and took numerous items from a security guard's desk.
The stolen items included challenge coins and other desk accessories.
DPS executed a search warrant at Lingfield's home and found the stolen items.
The news came the day after Maricopa County authorities announced the arrest of Lingfield in connection with the theft of election-related equipment.
The theft reportedly occurred on June 20, one day after a theft at the Maricopa County Elections Office.
Maricopa County officials say the June 20 theft will require election equipment at the facility to be reprogrammed, costing taxpayers at least $20,000.
DPS says Lingfield is facing charges of trespass, theft and burglary in connection to the theft at the Senate building.
