A local judge has struck back after supporters demanded clemency for the Kingman man who shot and killed his roommate about three years ago. A Mojave County Superior Court jury last month convicted 37-year-old Christopher Cacos of manslaughter, but declined to convict him of second-degree murder.
Kacos was founded by 30-year-old Christopher Young in the John Norman Ln. neighborhood. There was no dispute that Cacos shot Young as he returned to his home hours after his neighbor’s assault in April 2020.
Young was unarmed when he was killed in the street by a shotgun fired by Cacos.
“He gave my nephew no chance, no mercy. Nothing was given (to Young).”
The victim’s mother also requested a lengthy prison term for Young at Monday’s sentencing hearing.
“He executed my son,” said Young’s mother, who said friends and family in Cacos could still visit and contact the defendant. “I don’t have that luxury.”
Judge Sipe sided with the victim and noted that the officer investigating the assault told Kacos to call the police when Young returned.
“You didn’t call the police when Mr. Young came back,” Judge Sipe told Cacos. he was not armed. ”
Sipe also noted that Cacos essentially threatened Young before the shooting and made incriminating comments during the neighbor’s assault, Young’s return, and the shotgun firing.
“Better find him before I do,” Saipe said Kakos told officers before Young returned.
Judge Sipe sentenced Kacos to 12 years in prison.
