Pima County Sheriff’s Department asking for public’s help in locating suspect

The Southern Tucson Police Department and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department are seeking public assistance in their search for suspects in connection with the murder investigation.

On Wednesday morning, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Christopher Rodriguez on one count of first-degree murder and one count of possession of a weapon by a prohibited person in the death of Lionel Matthews, 21, the sheriff’s department said.

South Tucson police were dispatched around 1 a.m. after receiving a call of shootings near West 40th and South 6th Avenues, according to initial statements about the incident.

When police arrived, Matthews was found dead after being shot.
